    Stash Buster’s IG Hop

Welcome to the Stashbusters 2024 Paper Crafting Hop!

Stashbusters 2024 Hop is hosted by Armen @armenscraftroom, Hilary @hilarygreek, and Ave @avedamontedesigns. Every other Tuesday, the Stashbusters post 3-6 creative, paper-based projects to share. Our goal is to use the items and supplies we already own to create between 81 – 162 projects each, over the course of 2024.

Today’s hop theme is “Mother’s Day or Women’s Celebration card with Floral Theme, made with no more than 5 supplies.” For this challenge, the card base, adhesives and scissors and/or paper trimmer were not counted as supplies.

What a challenge! I thought it would be easy. It took me a few tries to find something that worked with only 5 supplies! I used Altenew’s Zinnia layering dies, Hydrangea and Silver Stone Crisp dye inks, brushes and Wow’s Sparkling Sugar for bling! You didn’t think I would skip the bling did you? On one card I watercolored with the ink, one I ink smooshed and the third I ink blended. Which is your favorite? Can’t wait to see what the others made! Thanks for stopping by for Tuesdays with Traci and please remember to Share Your Joy!

Next Up on the Hop the Incredibly talented and quite humorous: @stamprgrl

Please hop along with us; we look forward to seeing your comments on our projects and theme interpretations. If you’d like to create your own projects using our theme, please use #stashbusters2024, so we can see them too!

    Our Flighty Friends: Update

More photos of our flighty friends the Monarch Butterflies! Did you know Monarch butterflies are Endangered? One of the main ways we could help their numbers grow is by simply planting milkweed in our yards! It has beautiful pink, red, yellow or white flowers and this is what they eat in order to take their journey across North America to find their mate!

This year we have brought in 321 caterpillars and released 257! That is great! Our backyard is a Monarch butterfly playground!

    Rustic Charm

Hello! Today I am sharing a card that was taught by Bridget Casey–she is at Altenew and you can find her classes at Bridget Casey Designs. I subscribe to receive Altenew’s CRAFT YOUR LIFE kit. Bridget is one of Altenew’s Educator’s and teaches different CYL classes the last Wednesday of the month. You can sign up on her site.

This is the Rustic Charm CYL kit. It is beautiful! This set comes with an embossing Folder, a stencil a stamp set and a die! If you subscribe you will receive a kit every month! The options of how you choose to use your set is limitless! (Remember, I am not on Altenew’s payroll, although it is probably every card maker’s dream!)

This card was mostly ink blended through their spectacular stencils! They are so nice and make things look fantastic! The background here was ink-blended and splattered with several colors! This is a slim line, easel card! Thanks for the class @bridgetcaseydesigns I really love the intense background and the light little birds!

Have you ever used Altenew’s stencils? How about their super soft blending brushes? Thank you so much for stopping by! Hope you’ll leave a comment!

See you tomorrow night for Tuesdays with Traci! Remember, Share Your Joy!

  • Polychromatics

    Polychromatics

    AECP Level 2 Submission

Do you know that song by Queen—“Another” one bites the dust?” For some reason that song was playing through my head over the few days it took for me to get my project how I would like it.

I’m in the Altenew Educator’s Certification Program. I’ve completed Level 1 and am working my way through Level 2. This post is about the card I made for the Polychromatic class over in the Altenew Academy. This class was taught by Nina-Marie Tripani. She made the class fun. I felt like I was sitting across from her while we crafted! The classes are informative and have really helped me get a better result with my cards. I love the classes and the challenge—I want it to last—then again, I want to be done and teach! I want to be an Altenew Educator and Share My Joy! So, I think that is why that song is on a loop in my brain over and over again! Is it stuck in your brain now? hee hee

For this class, I went with Lesson #5. I learned about pastel colored cards with no line coloring. I have learned a couple things with this class–Coloring in pastel colors is not my jam and I learned that I am very heavy handed when coloring with anything—pencils, Artist alcohol markers, ink blending—all of them! I practiced using my very dear, very first Altenew complete set—Peony Bouquet! How I loved this set! It was as if it called to me from afar! I bet I colored 12-15 flowers in assorted light colors before I felt these were “right.” The others all started out with my coloring being very light—building up color by layering the pencil or marker coloring—then WHAM! I started adding brighter colors and became heavy handed! I clearly have a Mr. Hyde and a Jekyll inside! It was as if I couldn’t color lightly and leave it!

This card has two colored pencils flowers—-the two in the back. They were colored using Prismacolor pencils. I will list the colors below. I do not yet have Altenew’s amazing Woodless Coloring Pencils! They’ve been on my wish list for a long time! I started by coloring the petals in the lightest color—almost out to the tip of each petal. I used Pink Sand Fresh Dye ink to stamp the stamp. Then, I used my darkest (Still very light!) and added the cast shadows and any shadows that would have been on the flower should it have been real. Then, I took my middle tones and colored over the dark, over the light until it blended into a smooth transition! Colored pencils take time and patience. It isn’t done in one go! The front flower was colored with alcohol markers in the same manner. This is how I color any image. I LOVE coloring! It is my go to—it is my time to practice mindfulness. Just the tip of my pencil/marker moving across the small image on the paper. It is THE BEST!

For the leaves, I colored it the same way…with different green pencils. I added a dab of pink/peach to the leaves just to help them work better with the flowers. Now it was time to finish up my delicate looking card! I die cut a circle and put it in the Tufted Elegance embossing folder. I think this is a beautiful, versatile embossing folder. I decided to keep this white—lovely! For the background I ink blended the Tiny Bubbles stencil by Altenew with their ink blending brushes—so soft–using Sea Glass Crisp Dye ink. I covered the whole background and then went to work laying out my different elements! I felt this card was busy enough and did not need splatter or gems. I like the delicate, soft look of it—and I’ll use this skill sometimes, I’m sure. I came to realize that I REALLY do love my vibrant, bold colors!

So, what is your preference? Pastel colored cards, bright colored cards or neutral colored cards? Maybe you thought of something else. This really intrigues me! I’d love to read your responses! Thank you for being here!

  • Bird of the Mountain

    Bird of the Mountain

Altenew’s April Inspiration Challenge, 2nd submission!

Yes, I’m back again with another submission to this month’s Inspiration Challenge over at Altenew! Bridget Casey was the person who had the honor of choosing the colors to inspire us–from a photo.

These are the colors she chose from her son Ryan’s photo of the beach: Burnt Red, Snapdragon and Nimbus!

I had the idea pop into my head to use Bird of the Mountain die set for this card because a friend and Altenew Educator has made so many of these birds in assorted colors and scenes. Thank you for the inspiration, Jennifer Johnston!

Like I said I used the Bird of the Mountain die set, the Flowing Leaves dies, Mighty Waves 3D embossing folder and many different colors and techniques.

For the Bird, I ink blended Firebrick (I don’t have Burnt Red), Snapdragon, Nimbus, Silver Lining and Desert Night . I then used the Paper Bag Artist Alcohol Marker to add some detail to the bird’s breast, and a fine liner black pen to make a line along the bird’s body. (Where it was gray or blue.) It helped the bird stand out more from the ink smooshed waves!

The leaves—I had used this die set during Bridget Casey’s Altenew Educator Craftfest: 24 Hours of Crafting Bliss! What a blast! I learned so much and laughed so hard, too! Anyway, we watercolored for every class. IT was AMAZING! We made 18 cards with a small selection of products and a BIG group of Educators! So today I watercolored the Flowing Leaves by spritzing them with water and applying Silver Lining to every leaf. Next I added Nimbus ink (by watercoloring) to the stems where the flowers branched off and the base and bottom of each leaf—instant shadows! I took my wet paint brush and added a dab of water to smooth the ink between the Silver Lining and the Nimbus areas on the leaves.

They waves were ink smooshed with water and Nimbus ink and toward the very bottom–Desert Night .I then took a paint brush and added a bit more Nimbus Crisp Dye ink. This was AFTER I embossed it with Altenew’s Mighty Waves 3D embossing folder. Then I dried it and re-embossed it in the embossing folder. I added a teeny bit of White Cloud pigment ink to top the waves! It didn’t give the waves the shiny, sparkly look I see when I look out at the ocean—so I took my white gel pen and outlined the peaks of the waves. After that, I adhered some of WOW’s Sparkling Sugar on the waves—just what it needed—along with some Wink of Stella, of course!

  • Altenew’s Inspiration Challenge–April, 2024

    Altenew’s Inspiration Challenge–April, 2024

Hi! I am playing along with Altenew’s Inspiration Challenge this month! Boy, was this photo inspiring! I LOVE the beach—the ocean is so magnificent —So big! It makes all of life’s challenges seem small. I LOVE that!

I digress. I used the photo as inspiration for my background and with the colors! I embossed the background with Altenew‘s Organic Linen Embossing Folder...I then colored it with Nimbus, Dusk and Desert Night and a little bit of Navy. Then I used my very old Versamark pen to add lines here and there across the card front. I then heat embossed white to look like the surf and a tad of silver to mimic the reflection on the water. I love it! It only took me 4 different backgrounds to get to this one! It took a few tries before I decided to use the EF horizontally I’ll use them all–I’m sure!

I die cut an oval out of extra watercolor paper and painted it with Nimbus. I then rolled the edges through my Versamark ink pad and heat embossed it with silver embossing powder. Then, I realized it hid my beautiful alt-ocean background! So, I cut it in half!

I die cut the three layers of the Butterfly Bush set by Altenew and cut the stem with leaves from Altenew‘s Botanical Illustrations stamp and die set. I didn’t use the stamp today. The flowers each were water-colored with one color for each of the layers—the bottom layer was painted in Burnt Red, The mid layer was in Snapdragon and the top layer was done in Chamomile. The Altenew watercolor brushes are excellent–I used them to paint the flower and stem/leaves. They leaves and stem were painted using Silver Lining and Nimbus for shading. Did I tell you this whole project was painted using Crisp and Fresh Dye inks? Just add water and paint! Pretty awesome—sure adds a lot of variety with colors. Lastly, I added some Wink of Stella to the flower centers. It doesn’t photograph—just imagine sparkle! I know you can do it! haha

I am only 4—count them—FOUR Followers away from my goal of 300 on Instagram! I would absolutely love it if you Followed me there— @tracisjoyfulpapercrafting Please leave a comment and Follow. Thank you so much for taking the time to take a look today! I really appreciate you!

  • 1st Fans of Altenew Card Hop!

1st Fans of Altenew Card Hop!

    Tuesdays with Traci– Week #34

Hi friends! Welcome to the first Fans of Altenew Card Hop hosted by @createwithkas ! For today’s hop, we are showcasing our projects using: Seasonal Blooms! We were delighted to each have this gorgeous Craft-Your-Life kit from @altenew and dedicated today to share what we made with it. We hope your day blooms with delight!

I just finished taking the best retreat EVER! Bridget Casey hosted The Altenew Educator CraftFest: 24 Hours of Crafting Bliss! 24 Hours of WATER-COLORING ! So much fun and I learned a lot! 18 cards and a feast of techniques were taught by the very best of Altenew’s Educators! I will be one someday!) @bridgetcasey I can not thank you enough! I learned so much—I applied some of it to these cards! And what a great community of crafters! I loved all of the laughter and stories. You have created a fun, loving, positive community with your FREE SATURDAWORKSHOPS. Thank you for that! I think I forgot to mention that she only charged us $5 and donates it to charities!

What a fun time I had making these 2 cards! The first card used so many different colors I couldn’t believe it! I used the Seasonal Blooms stencil along with Altenew’s blending brushes. Their layering stencils really make the magic for you! I inked up these stencils with Chamomile, Mountain Pine, Olive, Shadow Creek, Firebrick, Caramel Toffee, Deep Iris, Autumn Blaze, Razzleberry, Yellow Ochre, Pumpkin Pie, Canyon Clay, and Butternut! I used many of the same colors in the Artist Alcohol Markers. When I finally had the colors as deep and vibrant as I wanted, I went to work on the background. I made a mask by using the die set that comes with Seasonal Blooms set and ink blended the background with Mt. Mist. Then I started filling in little areas with the markers. Next thing I knew I had recolored the whole background! Talk about being in the zone! I have recently learned to embrace the splatter! So, splatter I did! I used white splatter, black splatter, iridescent splatter and then even darker black splatter! Splatter City! I worked on finding the sentiment that comfortably fit between the flowers. This hello die was perfect. I used the shadow die and the actual word die in black and white. Then I put the card front on a black mat and adhered sequins! I really have found a new love of color—and seeing what depth and vibrancy I can coax out of the project!

The second card is a big contrast to the first! The first card was all about LOUD, BOLD, BEAUTIFUL COLOR! This card is soft and traditionally feminine if I had thought of it I would have added a nice piece of lace to it! The background was inked up with Altenew’s Caribbean Sky Crisp dye ink, splattered it in white and iridescent and ran it through the Loving You embossing folder. I water colored this portion of Seasonal Blooms with ink. For this card I used: Peachy Keen, Dusty Rose, Mauve, Lavender, Soft Lilac and Frayed Leaf. I cut the embossed card stock down in size from 6″x 6″ to an A2 size card. (Same EF as above!) and then hand cut the front of the flowers out in as close to the outline as possible. I then popped the florals up on Altenew’s bigger than your head roll of dimensional foam tape, added some Wink of Stella and some very soft pink sequins. I added a birthday sentiment and it was done!

I REALLY loved this hop and making these cool projects with Altenew’s Seasonal Blooms set. I can’t wait to see what the others have done for the hop. Do me a favor please–if you liked these cards please click the heart, leave a comment and Follow my feed @tracisjoyfulpapercrafting This is an exciting time for me as I have started Level 2 of the Altenew Educator’s Certification Program. I am LOVING it and I want to share this JOY with you! Thanks for being here! Please remember to Share YOUR Joy!
